OUR DESCRIPTION A SPLENDID NEW John Hamon Miller Handmade CORKSCREW 20 MM = 13/16″ Diameter Art Glass Marble. It is a One-Of-A-Kind Handmade Marble by John in 3 Beautiful Colors Orange, White and Brown. This is a lovely size contemporary size marble that Measures Approximately 20 MM and or 13/16″ inch Diameter, please see last picture for Digital Caliper LCD Display Measurement. It is unsigned but attribution is guaranteed. The entire motif consists of 3 wonderful Colors Orange, White and Brown in this Fancy Corkscrew Marble. The pictures do not do this Marble justice and it is much better seen in person and up close. I consider this Lovely Marble to be in Excellent Original Condition. A few of John’s marbles can be seen in the book called “Marble Collectors Handbook” by Robert S. Block Copywrite 2005, page 169. The pontil mark is fire polished smooth. Short History: John Hamon MillerJohn Hamon-Miller is a third-generation glassblower, proudly representing the Hamon Glass family from Scott Depot, West Virginia. With a specialty in both blown and torch glasswork, John is celebrated for producing high-quality artistic glass.The Hamon Glass legacy began in 1929 with John’s maternal grandfather, O.B. Hamon, who founded the business. In the early years, O.B. and his four sons focused on crafting functional glass, earning recognition for their Crackleware. During the Great Depression, they sustained the business by collaborating with other glass factories in the area. In the 1960s, John’s uncle, Robert L. Hamon, transitioned the family into the world of art glass. Robert gained international acclaim for his artistic designs and exceptional craftsmanship. Growing up, John spent much of his time in his grandfather’s factory, learning the trade under the guidance of his Uncle Bob.In 1994, with encouragement from his family, John officially entered the art glass scene by opening his own studio. Continuing the family tradition, John utilized the family’s crystal formula to produce some of the clearest, most brilliant crystal in the United States. His work, particularly in paperweights, marbles, and blown glass, is distinguished by vibrant colors and dynamic movement, making his pieces highly sought after and collectible.John has achieved worldwide recognition for his marble creations, excelling in both offhand (cane cut) and torch work. His marbles have been featured in several books on contemporary marble art and are displayed in museums, with thousands of collectors around the globe cherishing his work.In 2009, due to health concerns, John semi-retired from glasswork and closed his studio. However, in 2023, he resumed creating marbles and has been enjoying attending marble shows and sharing his latest creations. John Hamon-Miller hails from the renowned Hamon family of glassmakers and is considered one of the pioneers of the soft glass furnace blowing technique from the early days of the art glass marble movement. He began his career in the 1990s and continued producing marbles into the 2000s. Much of his work is known for its use of the family’s famous sparkly goldstone, which adds a dazzling brilliance to his marbles, no matter the lighting.
