She holds a BFA from Cal State Stanislaus and has just started exhibiting and selling her work, January 2024. Her pyrography is unusual in that she chooses to depict urban scenes, inner city scenes, and scenes that showcase the poorest members of society. She had her first solo exhibition from 12/12/23-12/16/23 at the Stan State Art Space in Turlock, California titled, ?Hiraeth.?Her work in her project, ?Hiraeth,? surrounds her own personal experiences with homelessness on the streets of Los Angeles. Hiraeth can be defined as a ?a deep longing for home, sometimes a home that never existed. These images are all taken from real videos of the streets, mostly shot during the time that she was living there from 2005-2010. Most of the images depict areas of downtown Los Angeles, specifically the area known as Skid Row where she spent time at the VOA shelter. Her goal is to use this medium in a way that is ironic. Instead of showing beautiful, visually appealing images, she would like to show less appealing, images that society would deem ?ugly.? She feels it is important to recognize that these people are just that?people?and deserve to be treated as such. She wants to showcase their moments the same way that beautiful, appealing moments are captured. Finally, she hopes to elevate these people to a level of immortality by engraving them into wood forever. Kat?s exhibition pieces have been finished with Clapham?s Salad Bowl Finish.
