Rare Antique-Vintage US 13 STAR Annin-Sterling Yacht Boat Wool Anchor Ensign Flag 3×5 FT. (36″x60″) 13 sewn on individual 5 point stars. 13 pieced out, double seamed stripes. 2 metal grommets. Reinforced hoist and edges. Sewn on label on hoist. It says: “THE NAME ANNIN GUARANTEES QUALITY” – “STERLING, REG. U.S. PATENT OFF. – FAST COLOR – DOUBLE WARP – ALL WOOL BUNTING” (It is also ink stamped): “3x5FT”. History About Annin Flag Makers – They are known as the premier (and oldest) flag company of the U.S.A. – since 1847. They are a 6 generation family owned and operated company. To name a few accomplishments, the company made flags for the inauguration of President Abraham Lincoln as well as the flag that draped his casket. They made flags for the opening ceremony of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883. Their flags were flown at the arrival of Commander Peary at the North Pole in 1909 and Admiral Bird at the South Pole in 1930. It was their flag used for the Marines when they raised the flag at Iwo-Jima in 1945 and for NASA for The Apollo 11 in 1969. Through the years, they have presented their flags for many other major important events worldwide. The family company continues to produce flags to this day. THIS OLD FLAG WAS RESEARCHED FOR FACTS, DATES, ORIGINS. WE BELIEVE IT IS WWII OR EARLIER – BEFORE THE GOVT ENDED USING ALL WOOL BUNTING FOR FLAGS. DURING WWII, SINCE THE SOLDIERS UNIFORMS WERE MADE OF WOOL, FLAG MAKERS BEGAN USING COTTON. WE ARE NOT FLAG EXPERTS AND CAN ONLY OFFER INFO FOUND BASED ON ONLINE RESEARCH. THEREFORE, WE CAN NOT CONFIRM A SPECIFIC DATE OR YEAR THIS FLAG WAS MADE. WE PASS THE TASK TO DO FURTHER RESEARCH ON IT TO ITS BUYER SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE THEIR OWN DETERMINATION REGARDING ITS AGE. Dimensions: 3 feet (36″) x 5 feet (60″) x. 1″ wide hoist. Metal grommets are 1″ diameter with 3/8″ center holes. Weighs 13 oz. Condition: Please closely review all of the photos. More photos can be sent upon request. This flag is obviously very old. It has expected flaws from age. Overall condition is very good. Has worn through spots/tears here and there. There’s 2 large tears on blue area and group of small holes on striped area. Both grommets are present and intact but have patina and tarnish. Color fade/discolor from age is more or less mainly on the white areas. Some seams have threads hanging from the embroidery or sewing. Creases from it being folded in storage.As of this listing, it is now being properly stored. It is loosly rolled in acid free paper and tissue (no plastic wrapping) and tucked loosly inside a tubular box. This is also how we will ship it.
