This is a 1976-vintage Sansui TU-3900 AM/FM Stereo Tuner that is completely tested, fully functional and complete. The original 1976 MSRP was $160, which is the equivalent of $882 in 2024. The TU-3900 would pair very well with a Sansui AU-3900 integrated amplifier. BTW: I currently have a Sansui AU-3900 for sale in a separate listing. This is what FMTunerInfo had to say about the TU-3900: “The TU-3900 is a 3 gang, 2 filter, single-bandwidth FM/AM tuner. The front panel includes lighted signal-strength and center-tune meters, muting, attenuation, power, AM/FM and FM Auto Stereo switches. The tuning dial face is not lighted but the dial indicator is, and the tuning knob is adequately weighted. The filters are Murata SFEs10.7 kHz red dot. The TU-3900 employs a ratio detector, uPC554c MPX IC and discrete output circuits using 2SC1312 transistors. The rear panel provides fixed, Dolby, and discriminator outputs, including the usual voltage selector, fusing, unswitched power and antenna connections. Construction is good, with a removable bottom panel and dedicated PS board. It also shares the same power supply as the TU-5900 and TU-7900 tuners. Lastly, the 3900 uses the identical boards and components as the TU-4400 with the one exception being that the MPX chip in the 4400 is an HA1120. The TU-3900 sounds pretty good after a little tweaking but not equal to the TU-217.”Dimensions: 16” W, 5.” H, 9.5” D, 11 lbs. This TU-3900 is serial #846122969.I am passionate about vintage tuners. I take the time to test every single function of the tuner by connecting it to a good FM antenna and also connecting it to an integrated amplifier and speakers.Doing this lets me listen to how the tuner receives stations and actually sounds. I check every single switch, control and button to confirm that they work as intended.After the initial assessment, I thoroughly clean the outside and inside of the tuner and clean every potentiometer and switch with CRC QD Electronic cleaner.This particular TU-3900 is in excellent shape cosmetically, as you can see from the photos. It is very clean inside. Functionally, all of the meters, bulbs, buttons and switches work as designed. The FM tuning indicator dial is properly aligned. Most importantly, it tunes FM stations very well and sounds great. It is hard to believe that it is roughly 48 years old!The tuner will be wrapped with plastic cling wrap and multiple layers of bubble wrap, before being placed into a sturdy box with appropriate packing material. I don’t overcharge for shipping.This is sold “as is” due to being a vintage electronic item. Please look at the photos and ask any questions before buying. The AU-3900 amplifier is NOT included.
