Special Sets Are Stacked in Catalogue Order and Shipped Inside a Protective Case MINT NEVER HINGED JOHN PAUL JONES VARIETY SET OF 2 2018 ONLINE RETAIL SALES VALUE IS $2.00 – $2.25 The Auction: This is a SPECIAL variety set of 2 commemoratives FVF and MNH. It contains 15c John Paul Jones stamps with Scott numbers 1789 and 1789A. The set does not include the extremely scarce 1789B perf. 12 x 12. Scott 1789 is perf. 11×12 and 1789A is perf. 11. Bradbury Thompson designed the stamps featuring the naval commander and quote “I have not yet begun to fight.” The stamps are based upon a famous painting my Charles Wilson Peale. They were issued Sept. 23, 1979 as part of the continuing American Bicentennial celebration. Fifteen cents paid the USPS First Class 1 oz letter rate from May 29, 1978 until Mar. 22. 1981. The perforation varieties were included in the Scott Catalogue Major Number additions of 2001.
