I have to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. The Panzer III was the backbone of the German Army during WWII. There were better and more sophisticated tanks built, but they were never fielded in sufficient numbers, so the Panzer III and their derivatives shouldered the load. Now you can have one in this large 1/16 scale to sit next to a Tiger, T-34 or even a Sherman. Gallery Models (through MRC) has continued their partnership with Trumpeter to release this monster version of one of the most popular subjects in armor modeling. I only found a handful of listings for this kit on eBay (in the Gallery version), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have it in stock and can reliably ship this kit very quickly. Here is some of the info I found about this kit from around the web: The Model Rectifier Corporation (MRC) is the parent company that owns the Gallery Models brand. The page for this kit shows the box art and has the following description and list of features: 1/16 Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf. Type J/L/M (3-in-1) Panzer III was the common name of a medium tank that was developed in the 1930s by Germany and was used extensively in WWII. The official German designation was Panzerkampfwagen III Sd Kfz. 141 (abbreviated PzKpfw III) translating as “armored fighting vehicle”. It was intended to fight other armored fighting vehicles and serve alongside to support Panzer IV: however, as the Germans faced the formidable T-34, stronger anti-tank guns were needed. Since the Panzer IV had a bigger turret ring, the roles were reversed. The Panzer IV mounted the long barreled 7.5cm KwK 40 gun and engaged in tank-to-tank battles. The Panzer III became obsolete in this role and for the most purposes was supplanted by the Panzer IV. From 1942, the last version of Panzer III mounted the 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24, better suited for infantry support. Production of the Panzer III ended in 1943. There are also links to tons of aftermarket parts and references to support your build. Michael Benolkin wrote up a concise First Look Review on the cybermodeler.com site that starts with a brief history of the Panzer III. He shows all of the parts in ten photos, including the grey, black, tan and clear plastic parts, the PE fret and the decal sheet. He lists the highlights and abundant features of the kit and provides great tips for track tensioning. He peppers the review with praise, like: “The lower hull reveals how sturdy this model will be after assembly – the hull is thick, as are the other hull components. What is also encouraging is that this kit is not over-engineered nor based upon numerous tiny parts. There isn’t any difficulty building this gem.” Michael Reeves did a more thorough First Look Review on the amps-armor.org site that has 30 photos of the parts (upper and lower hulls, turret, sprues, PE fret, metal gun barrel, individual track links, decals and instructions) to show exactly what you are getting in this big box. He was impressed with the engineering of the kit and his Conclusion starts out with: “This kit is obviously grandiose in size. The lower hull is nearly as long as my forearm and this will be an excellent piece when completed.” As a follow-up, Michael Reeves also did an exemplary Build Review on the amps-armor.org site. He shows the build and results through about 20 photos and describes his experience as he goes. He especially loved the tracks and how easily they went together. There are many valuable tips sprinkled throughout the review. His results were astonishing, and his Conclusion contains: “The fit was quite amazing and intuitive steps made it a breeze to build. I found it to be quite weighty as I went, so be sure to take care so it doesn’t spill out of your hands. Tracks were an absolute delight to work with and look great.” Michael Benolkin also did an outstanding Build Review on the cybermodeler.com site that goes into a little more detail and documents each step in his process of building and finishing the model with 40 photos. He said, “I won’t get into any details on assembling this kit unless I run into problems” and apparently there were very few of those. Aside from watching his masterpiece come together in stages, you get few comments about the kit. In the end, he simply said: “this was an interesting build that didn’t have any real problems.” This massive kit is in a hefty box about 22” x 14” x 6”. As you can see from the pictures, the package is pristine and is still sealed with shrink wrap, so it is factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This incredible kit contains over 1500 grey, black, rust, and clear plastic parts, photo-etched metal parts, a turned metal gun barrel, copper wire and a set of decals, along with a detailed instruction set and full-color painting guide.
